SZU in Facts: Size, Who Got In, Costs

In short. This page shows no student reviews. It shows what SZU's own documents say, each fact with its year. The English programme is small: 15 planned for 2026/27. In 2025/26, admitted scores ran from 638 down to 355 of 640. Your place depends only on one test in biology and chemistry.

There are few student reviews of SZU online, so this guide sticks to SZU's own documents. It covers the English General Medicine programme at the Slovak Medical University (SZU) in Bratislava.

The programme

• What: General Medicine, taught in English, in Bratislava.
• How long: 6 years, full time.
• The degree: MUDr. (doctor of general medicine), with 360 ECTS credits.
• English: SZU asks for no English certificate. The test is in English, so it checks your English too.

How small it is

• Planned for 2026/27: 15 students.
• On an admitted list SZU published: 24 codes. The list has no year on it.

So the 24 may come from a different year than the 15. Read the two numbers as a sign of size, not as a trend.

Who got in (2025/26)

• Admitted scores: from 638 down to 355 of 640.
• The lowest admitted score: 355 of 640, or about 55%.
• Only one year: this is the 2025/26 result, not a promise for the next one.

SZU ranks English-programme applicants by test points only. The 2026/27 rules name no interview and no points for school grades.

The test

• Questions: 160, with 80 in biology and 80 in chemistry.
• Time: 150 minutes, so about 56 seconds a question.
• Where: in person in Bratislava, in English.
• When: one exam day, which was 1 July in 2026.

On exam day, you show your passport or ID card. Then you draw a code, and your test is marked under that code.

What to study: 21 topics, no physics

SZU publishes a 21-topic list for the English programme (read September 2026).

• About two-thirds is chemistry and biochemistry.
• Topic 21 is calculations: moles, concentration, pH, osmolarity and more.
• Not on the list: physics, and anatomy beyond blood groups.

SZU refunds the fee only if the programme does not open. Translations, the apostille (an official stamp that proves your certificate is real) and travel to Bratislava cost extra. Those prices depend on your country.

The one deadline, and the documents

SZU's English programme has one deadline for everything. In 2026 it was 31 May. By then you must do all three:

1. Apply online in MAIS, SZU's online application system.
2. Pay the EUR 70 fee by bank transfer.
3. Post the signed form with every document.

A document missing at the deadline means you do not meet the conditions (2026/27 rules).

• Pay first, because the payment proof goes in your envelope.
• Still at school? Hand in your certificate on exam day at the latest.
• Must your envelope arrive by the deadline, or only be posted by then? The rules do not say. So ask SZU, and post early.

If you are not admitted

SZU's general admission rules (Internal Regulation 13/2022) give you two rights:

• See your file: ask the dean in writing within 10 days of receiving the decision.
• Ask for a review: write to the dean within 8 days of receiving the decision. SZU must answer within 30 days.

Who SZU suits, and what to check

SZU may suit you if:

• you are strong in chemistry, since about two-thirds of the topics are chemistry or biochemistry;
• you can travel to Bratislava for an exam day in July (1 July in 2026).

Check these first:

• Outside the EU? SZU's 2026/27 document says nothing about visas. Ask SZU's Pedagogical Department before you rely on the July exam. Its phone and email are at the top of SZU's admission document.
• Your recognition document: it depends on the country of your school. The SZU guide explains which one you need.
• Housing: SZU offers none for this programme, so budget for a private room.

SZU or Comenius?
