Biology · blood groups (on SZU's topic list)

Our sample

A mother has blood group AB. The father has blood group O. Which genotype can their child have?

Tap an answer to see the explanation.

Show the answer

The answer is A: AO.

  • A) Right. The mother passes on A or B. The father can only pass on O. So the child is AO or BO.
  • B) Wrong. The father has no A or B allele to pass on.
  • C) Wrong. The mother has no O allele. The child gets A or B from her.
  • D) Wrong. AA needs an A from each parent. The father can only give O.

SZU's topic list names blood groups and the Rh factor.

Your SZU questions, answered

What score do I need for SZU?

For 2026/27, the English programme ranks you only on the points from the written test. The document for the English programme lists no bonus points for school grades or olympiads. The last published result (2025): For the 2025/2026 year, SZU admitted English-programme applicants with 638 down to 355 points, out of 640. That is one year's result, not a promise for the next one.

When is the 2027 deadline and exam?

Not published yet. Last year (2026): English programme: apply by 31 May 2026. One exam on 1 July 2026, in person in Bratislava. The English-programme document names one exam date. These are SZU's general admission rules for all its programmes. The proof that you paid the fee is part of a complete application, so pay before you post. The faculty sends your exam invitation at least 28 days before the exam. Bring an ID card or passport to the exam, and you draw your own code there. The dean may give you another exam date if you ask in writing, for example for an illness confirmed by a doctor. Not admitted? Ask the dean in writing to see your file, within 10 days of receiving the decision. Ask for a review within eight days of receiving it. The answer must come within 30 days. Check this page again before you post or pay.

How do I apply to SZU, step by step?

You apply yourself: we are not an agent, and we do not apply for you.

  1. Apply online in MAIS. SZU asks you to use the Firefox browser.
  2. Pay the fee by bank transfer. Keep the proof, because it goes in your envelope.
  3. Post the signed form with every document, by the deadline. The postal address and the full document list are in the facts at the end of this page. Your recognition document depends on the country of your school: check the Slovak ministry's navigator.
  4. Get your invitation, then sit the test. Bring your passport or ID card. You draw a code, and your test is marked under it.
  5. Results come under your code on SZU's website. Not admitted? See your rights.

What exactly is due by the deadline?

One deadline covers everything: the online application, the signed form with every document, and the EUR 70 fee. For 2026/27 it was 31 May 2026. A document missing at the deadline means you do not meet the conditions. Still at school? Hand in your school-leaving certificate on exam day at the latest. The rules do not say if the form must arrive by the deadline, or only be posted by then. Post it to: Pedagogický odbor (Pedagogical Department), Slovenská zdravotnícka univerzita, Limbová 12, 833 03 Bratislava, Slovakia. Pay the fee by bank transfer only.

What goes in the envelope: You need a completed secondary education and a doctor's certificate that you are fit to study, with your hepatitis B vaccination. Apply online in MAIS, SZU's application system: SZU asks you to use the Firefox browser. Then post the signed, printed form with: your school-leaving certificate with an apostille and an authorised Slovak translation; your recognition document; proof of the EUR 70 payment; a CV in English; your birth certificate with an authorised Slovak translation; a copy of your passport or ID card; and one 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo. School in the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the UK, Ukraine, Russia, China or Iceland? You need a recognition statement. From any other country, you need a recognition decision from a Slovak regional school office. You apply and pay separately for each study programme. At enrolment you must show at least two doses of hepatitis B vaccine.

SZU's rules for this programme are strict. A document missing at the deadline means you do not meet the conditions. So post a complete envelope well before the deadline. SZU's general rules let the faculty ask for a missing document, but do not count on it.

Pay first, because the payment proof goes in the envelope. Ask SZU's Pedagogical Department whether your envelope must arrive by the deadline or only be posted by then: its phone and email are at the top of page 1 of SZU's admission document.

What has to be translated, and who may translate it?

Your school-leaving certificate needs an apostille (an official stamp that proves it is real) and an authorised Slovak translation. Your birth certificate needs an authorised Slovak translation too. Your CV is in English. SZU's list does not say who may make the authorised translation. So ask SZU before you pay a translator outside Slovakia.

I am not from the EU. Is the SZU exam too late for a visa?

SZU's English-programme document says nothing about visas. So ask SZU's Pedagogical Department before you rely on its exam date. Comenius, the other Bratislava school on this site, tells non-EU applicants to sit an early exam. We cannot advise on visas.

Do I need IELTS, an interview or physics?

No English certificate is needed. The test is written in English, so it checks your English too. The English-programme rules name no interview: your place depends on test points only. SZU's topic list has no physics.

Is SZU hard to get into? I can't find any reviews.

We show no reviews, only what SZU publishes. SZU planned to admit 15 students to the English programme for 2026/27. An admitted list SZU published, with no year on it, carries 24 applicant codes. Read what SZU's documents say.
