Medicine in Slovakia: Fees and Costs
In short. For 2026/27, tuition is EUR 10,000 a year at SZU and EUR 13,000 a year at Comenius (General Medicine). Comenius promises the same fee every year of the standard study length. The fee to apply was EUR 70 at SZU and EUR 99 at Comenius. Neither school has published its 2027/28 fees yet (checked 11 October 2026). On top come costs the schools do not price: translations, notaries, travel, and at SZU a private room.
This page covers the English General Medicine programmes at two universities in Bratislava, Slovakia (not Slovenia). They are Comenius University's Faculty of Medicine and the Slovak Medical University (SZU). Searching for "Slovakia medical university fees"? Both schools are here.

Tuition
- SZU: EUR 10,000 a year for English General Medicine (2026/27). SZU's fee schedule sets this for English-programme students admitted from 2024/25 onward. The programme takes 6 years.
- Comenius: EUR 13,000 a year for General Medicine (2026/27). Dentistry costs EUR 14,500 a year.
- The Comenius promise: you pay the same fee every year of the standard study length. Repeat a year? Ask the faculty what that year costs.
- 2027/28: neither school has published the fee for students starting in 2027 yet.
Some sites still give Comenius tuition as EUR 8,000 to EUR 11,000 a year. The faculty's own page says EUR 13,000 (2026/27).
Tuition is charged per year, so multiply it by the years you study.
The fee to apply
SZU: EUR 70 (2026/27, and also EUR 70 for 2024/25).
- How to pay: by bank transfer only. The account and the payment reference are in SZU's admission document for the year.
- Pay first: the payment proof is part of a complete application, so it goes in your envelope.
- Refund: only if the faculty does not open the programme because too few people apply.
Comenius: EUR 99 per application (2026/27).
- Refund: none.
- One fee per programme: you pay separately for each study programme. So General Medicine and Dentistry would cost EUR 99 each.
- Proof: you upload it in the e-application, by the registration deadline of your exam date.
In 2025/26 the Comenius fee was EUR 95, and EUR 80 came back if you withdrew in writing before the deadline. Some sites still say EUR 95. For 2026/27 it is EUR 99, with no refund.
Applying to both schools? That is EUR 70 + EUR 99 = EUR 169 in fees (2026/27).
Study material
- SZU: the topic list is free. Read SZU's topic list (PDF), and our guide to the 21 topics.
- Comenius: every exam question comes from the faculty's two booklets. The English PDF costs EUR 31.98: order it on the faculty's online form and pay by bank transfer. A printed copy costs EUR 33.60 at the faculty bookshop in Bratislava, and the faculty posts it within Slovakia only.
The faculty says it is not responsible for other versions of its questions. So buy the booklets from the faculty. Our booklet study plan splits them by week.
Costs the schools do not price
These depend on your country, so we do not guess them.
For SZU, by the deadline (2026/27 list):
- your school-leaving certificate with an apostille (an official stamp that proves it is real), plus an authorised Slovak translation;
- your birth certificate, plus an authorised Slovak translation;
- a recognition statement, or for some countries a recognition decision from a Slovak regional school office;
- a doctor's certificate of fitness, with your hepatitis B vaccination;
- a passport or ID copy, a CV in English and one 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo;
- postage, because the signed form goes by post to Bratislava;
- travel to Bratislava, because the exam is in person.
For Comenius, after admission (by enrolment day):
- your birth certificate, notarised and translated into Slovak;
- a medical fitness certificate and proof of hepatitis B vaccination;
- for a recognition statement: a notarised copy of your diploma, translated into Slovak by a certified translator;
- nostrification, only if you need it: EUR 7 for the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Croatia, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Russia and China, and EUR 40 for all other countries. A Slovak regional school office handles it.
The Comenius March and June exams were online in 2026, and the August exam was online or in person. So at Comenius you can sit the exam without travelling.
Housing and living costs
- SZU provides no student housing for the English General Medicine programme. Budget for a private room. Some sites say SZU houses its English-programme students. SZU's admission document says it does not.
- Comenius: student housing is not on the faculty pages we checked. Ask the faculty.
- Living costs such as rent, food and transport are not on either school's pages we checked. So we give no estimate.
Are there scholarships?
Not on the faculty pages we checked, for either English programme. Ask each school before you count on one.
